Three of the great figures in the marijuana legalization movement have written a book, Marijuana is SAFER: So Why Are We Driving People To Drink. In order to promote their book, they have taken to the Ron Paul style of promotion and organized a Book Bomb, meaning they want everyone who wants a copy of this book to wait until August 20th and then order online via Amazon.

Their Reasoning:

A book about marijuana has never hit #1 on Amazon.com. With your help that could change, and we can demonstrate to the country the depth of support for marijuana policy reform in this country. If it reaches #1, we will also draw national attention to the book's basic message -- that marijuana is safer than alcohol.

I want to highlight one of the author before ending this post. Steve Fox, one of the three authors, was the lobbyist to congress for the Marijuana Policy Project from 2002 - 2005 and cofounded SAFER.... Oh and he's a TUFTS University graduate... yeah... go Jumbos.

I Have a Man-Crush On Aaron Houston

Aaron Houston, the Marijuana Policy Project lobbyist in Washington (Whom I interviewed for the Tufts Observer Cover Story) sums up his testimony for congress regarding the DEA budget... which is, by the way, approximately $2.5 Billion of the $40 Billion spent annually on the drug war. Maybe we should think about that a bit more given the current economic climate; 40 Billion dollars a year is not tiny drop in the bucket.

Houston is an incredible guy and I'm encouraged that he is the direct voice to elected officials of the marijuana legalization movement. I think everyone should take Houston's advice and contact your federal representative. Please, this is more important than you'd think.

Mexican Drug Lord on Forbes Rich List

Mexico's most wanted man Joaquin "Shorty" Guzman, blamed for thousands of deaths in a drug war, has made it onto the Forbes Magazine list of the world's richest people with an estimated $1 billion fortune.

Guzman, who is just 5 feet tall (1.55 metres), escaped from prison in 2001 to set off a wave of killings across Mexico in an attempt to dominate the country's highly lucrative drug trade into the United States.

How much of that money is from marijuana? I don't know, I don't know Shorty's "game."

Marijuana Policy Project's Bruce Mirkin makes the claim that Marijuana accounts for 60% of the drug money that is made in Mexico. Can you even fathom the impact of removing 60% of the income of drug gangs?
